Boston Wedding Photographers go out on a limb….or a ledge.

Posted on 19. Sep, 2009 by Symbol Photography in Wedding/Engagement

Today is September 18, 2009 and we’ll begin this post by saying that imitation is the highest form of flattery. Over the course of my life, I’ve best been able to understand this phrase through music, like, ‘How Soon is Now? by The Smiths.” Few things are sadder than someone trying to be appear more depressed than Morrissey. “Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.” In this case, Jeff Buckley did as good a job but, at the same time, when your song is being covered in a movie that stars an animated ogre with the voice of Mike Myers, it’s probably safe to say it’s officially been parodied. Finally, the original of all replications – “All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan.” Just about everyone has covered this song: Prince. Neil Young. The Grateful Dead. U2. Pearl Jam. The Allman Brothers. Phish. The Killers. Phil Lesh. The Indigo Girls. Taj Mahal. Bands of almost every popular genre, generation, gender. This may be one of the few songs that’s an argument FOR covers because, after all, Hendrix’s version is virtual perfection. And then, you remember Heart and you begin to recall why the original artist and their version is always the best and that no one, and nothing can replace or outdo the risks they took, the vision they had and the length they went to to honor that creative vision.

Some say the imagination is seen as the ultimate source of originality and original thinking is what marks a true artist and thank goodness Lodxhi and Dave were willing to take a tour of two Boston wedding photographers imaginations and follow us, despite our train of thought leading them to the top of a building. We’ve wanted this shot for ages, we pursued it and guess what? We got it. In our past with our photography, there have been and will continue to be imitators and replicators. But much like Dylan, we did it first and that’s when it’s done best.
