Jennifer and Brendan were both independently passionate about photography long before Symbol Photography was formed. Jen graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography and was very active in taking internships for several fashion/product photographers in New York before settling in Boston. Brendan went the self-taught route and won many accolades from the City Of Boston, his peers and was featured in the Boston Globe, Improper Bostonian and other publications early in his career.
And while each have taken very different paths and taken many risks to get to this point, it is this amalgamation of style and methodology that ultimately benefits our clientele. They are polar opposites even in personality...
Jen is the shabby chic, classic - get the shot you-never-saw-coming side of Symbol Photography. She's a polite Midwesterner, but knows when to elevate herself to get the shots that everyone wants. Jen has propensity for vintage elegance and it shows in her style, she is very organized, yet very candid in her approach. Jen possesses the 'small things in life' disposition that lends itself to getting those great little fleeting moments that pass in the blink of an eye on your special day. Her vast experience through school and internships and current professional portfolio exemplifies just how vast her skill set is.
Brendan is the character of Symbol Photography. He has an eye for things in holistic fashion. Never will you say - "I love that photo but I wish it was in a different background". The key to his shooting style is to take in both the subjects and their environment to paint a picture - to capture the true essence of a couple and their environment. While Brendan also captures candid moments, the real key to his shooting style starts with traditional shots and poses and transforming them to look anything but traditional. This is one of the most difficult skills a modern photographer can learn to master.
